The quality of a program is only as strong as its mares. It takes a great mare to produce the next great champion, not just a great sire. Both anecdotal wisdom and scientific research supports the notion that the mare plays a larger role than the stallion in terms of the outcome of any given breeding, due not only to genetics and epigenetics, but the in-utero environment.
It is for this reason that we are taking great pains to emphasize that the quality of our mares is of utmost importance. It is also the reason why we choose to grow slowly, so as to leisurely acquire the broodmares that will best suit our needs rather than gathering up whatever mares we can find, and breeding them to quality stallions with the intention of improving later. We would rather take our time, and ensure that each mare is representative of our highest standards.
